About Chiropractic

Chiropractors specialize in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of the neuromusculoskeletal system. Although this typically involves focusing on the biomechanics of the spine, chiropractors are also proficient at evaluating all other joints and muscles of the body. Treatment is hands-on and usually includes spinal and extremity manipulations, also known as adjustments, as well as soft tissue treatments, exercise prescription, and lifestyle recommendations. The intent of spinal and extremity manipulation is to introduce movement to joints with restricted motion, with the result of decreasing pain and improving motion at the joint of interest.

In order to practice chiropractic, chiropractors must first complete 4 years of schooling including 4500 hours of lab-work, lectures, and practical hands-on clinic work. Prior to entering chiropractic school, chiropractors must finish at least three years of a university undergraduate program, though most chiropractors first complete the full 4-year undergraduate degree before entering chiropractic school.
