Orthotics
Orthotics are thermoplastic shoe inserts which help to
relieve pain and discomfort in the ankles, knees, hips and
low back by altering or modifying foot function. Dr.
Rutledge deals exclusively with
The Orthotic Group
for fabrication of orthotics as well as custom design
footwear including such brands as Naot, Merrel, Saucony,
Brooks, CAT, Crocs, and Birkentsock.
The process of custom-fitting orthotics begins with Dr.
Rutledge taking a history of previous injuries or discomfort
in the back and lower limbs as well as questions about
special conditions such as arthritis or diabetes. Dr.
Rutledge also asks about the intended primary use of the
orthotics to help in determining the ideal type of orthotics
for your specific needs. After a biomechanical assessment
of the feet, knees, ankles, hip and low back Dr. Rutledge
uses foam casting to create an exact impression of the
foot. This cast is then sent off to The Orthotic Group
laboratory where the orthotics are fabricated out of 100%
thermoplastic. The Orthotic Group’s Thermoplastic provides
enough rigidity to support the foot, while simultaneously
offering the foot the right amount of flexibility to
properly absorb ground reaction forces.
